Enersolv “LEED’s” Gold Standard for City High-rise (Vancouver, BC)

BOSA Development’s Waterfront Centre will be a distinctive LEED Gold addition to Vancouver’s downtown core. The 30 storey high-rise located at Granville and West Cordova will provide 355,000 square feet of the most valuable AAA office space in the history of the city. Enersolv Design and Build’s mechanical deign solution utilizes a water-source Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system with a single ambient hydronic loop. The green solution reduces the quantity of mechanical equipment required, saving space and money.

Enersolv’s team of Engineers have also been collaborating with Chris Dikeakos Architects and KPF Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates of New York on the building envelope. When commenting on the consulting services provided by Enersolv in support of the architects, Steve Grindle, General Manager, Enersolv Design and Build, stated, “Building envelopes, although not normally considered part of mechanical design, are an important part of a building’s thermal performance. Architectural design also has an impact on building code requirements, such as fire suppression systems; so being able to collaborate across disciplines is an important part of what we do. Buildings of this height require stairwell pressurization systems in the underground levels to ensure ventilation in the event of fire. Additionally, solutions to evacuate smoke from office floors is critical. For example, if operable windows are not part of the envelope design, smoke evacuation fans are required to meet building code. By working together now, we help the client avoid costly design changes later.”

BOSA Development’s Waterfront Centre is scheduled for completion in 2021.
